Katherine "Kat" Barrell (born February 12, 1990) is a Canadian film and television actress. She is best known for her portrayal of Officer Haught on the SyFy channel series, Wynonna Earp. She currently stars as Joy Harper in the Hallmark Channel original series, Good Witch. She joined the cast in Season 6 following Bailee Madison's departure from the main cast.
Life and Career
Kat was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to a Slovenian mother. She had a lead role in two school plays, in addition to collaborating with a friend on a play in which they wrote, directed, and acted in together. She directed her high school's production of The Wizard of Oz. She studied musical theatre at Sheridan College then transferred to George Brown College to study filmmaking and acting at the School of Media & Performing Arts, graduating in 2010.
Having appeared on numerous television shows, Kat is best known for playing the popular character Officer Nicole Haught in the SyFy drama “Wynonna Earp”, a role that has inspired fans to launch the prominent social media hashtag #wayhaught. Her feature film credits include Universal’s The Scarehouse, Christopher Branch’s Definition of Fear, and the indie film Girls’ Night Out.
She starred as the lead of the Netflix film My Ex-Ex and recurred in the Netflix comedy Workin’ Moms as Alicia Rutherford. She also produced and starred in the critically acclaimed comedy short Issues, which was subsequently optioned as a television series. In addition, Kat wrote, directed, and produced the short Cannonball and is in development on the television half-hour comedy “The Officiants".
In 2019, Kat was cast as Joy Harper in the Hallmark Channel original series, Good Witch. She made her character debut in the Season 6 premiere, "The Anniversary", and returned for the show's seventh season.

- Kat's character and casting were created to fill the void in the Merriwick family once Bailee Madison (Grace Russell) left the series in the Season 5 finale.
