The Good Witch television franchise is a fourteen-year collection of stories following the magical Cassie Nightingale as she finds love, family, friendships, magic, and more in the small town of Middleton. Originally debuting as a Hallmark Channel original film in 2008, the success of the film spawned six sequels and a seven season television series. The characters were created by Rod Spence. The films were written by Rod Spence and directed by Craig Pryce. Craig Pryce and Sue Tenney developed the Good Witch television series. Dean Batali, Darin Goldberg, and several others served as executive producers. The series ran from 2015-2021 until its cancelation by Hallmark.

Original Film[]

The first film titled "The Good Witch" was released by Hallmark Channel on January 19, 2008. It was written by Rod Spence and directed by Craig Pryce. It starred Catherine Bell as titular character Cassie Nightingale. The film was heavily promoted in the hopes it would usher in a new set of viewers.

On January 15, 2008, Hallmark Channel and Limbo, a mobile entertainment community, teamed up to create and launch the network's first-ever mobile interactive initiative. The campaign "enhanced viewers' experience of the premiere of the network's original movie ... through 'Limbo Unique' – a game played via cell phone or online". The grand prize was $2,000 and a portrait of the "Grey Lady" that was featured in the movie.[1]

The movie was met with great success and reviews. It was the second-highest film on their network at the time. It premiered in nearly three million homes and #1 in its time slot. The success launched Hallmark to #4 in weekly network ratings.

Hallmark greenlit a second film in the franchise titled "The Good Witch's Garden".

Television Series[]

Cassie Nightingale (Catherine Bell), Middleton’s favorite enchantress, and her young-teenage daughter Grace (Bailee Madison), who shares that same special intuition as her mom, welcome Dr. Sam Radford (James Denton) and his son to town. When the New York transplants move in next to the Grey House, they are immediately spellbound by the mother-daughter duo next door, but Sam and Cassie quickly find they may not see eye to eye.  With her signature charm, Cassie attempts to bring everyone together, ensuring all of Middleton is in for new changes, big surprises and, of course, a little bit of magic!   • Throughout the films, a location called "The Esspresso Café" is seen and discussed. The title infamously holds a spelling error as it should be spelled "espresso" not "esspresso".
